HEARTSTORM BROUGHT ME BACK

Heartstorm got a makeover. She was the first painting I finished after being laid off from a job I gave eight years to, and the first thing I made in over twenty years without an event calendar running my life. She became a love letter to myself.
But something had been off every time I walked past her. Not wrong. Just off. So last week I went back in. I gave her more intention and let the chaos have room to shine. Same heart. Same texture. Same love. She breathes a little better now.

There was a play about her that I hadn't had room for in years. That is what I see when I look at her now, and it is the part I could not recreate on purpose even if I tried. There are things I would do differently if I started her today, but I am not sorry any of it is still in her. That version of me was figuring out how to be a person who paints again, with love.
I broke every rule I knew. I used every tool I had, including my hands, a lot. She brought my heart back to art. Of everything I have created since, she is still the one that gets me.
She is available here. But I will admit I have considered holding on to this one.
